WristNote Privacy Policy

WristNote ("the app") is a local-first speech-to-text note and checklist tool for Wear OS watches with an Android phone companion, published by Quazmoz (the developer).

This policy describes what the app does with user data and is intended to match the app's actual behavior.

Summary

• WristNote invokes Android speech recognition only to convert speech into text.
• WristNote does not record or store audio and does not request `RECORD_AUDIO`.
• Notes, checklists, folders, tags, reminder schedules, and app settings are stored locally on the user's own devices.
• Notes sync only between the user's paired phone and watch through the Wear OS Data Layer.
• WristNote has no developer-operated server or cloud note database.
• No account is required. No ads. No analytics SDKs.
• WristNote does not sell user data or use notes for advertising.

Speech recognition

When a user chooses to dictate a note, WristNote opens the Android system speech recognizer. The system recognizer owns the microphone session and returns recognized text to WristNote.

Depending on device configuration, speech recognition may happen on-device or through the user's configured recognition provider. That processing is governed by the device and provider settings and policies. WristNote does not receive or store the audio stream.

WristNote itself requests no microphone permission.

Data stored by the app

WristNote may store the following locally:

• Note and checklist text
• Note title and type
• Checklist completion state
• Folders and tags
• Pinned and archived state
• Reminder schedule, recurrence, selected days, snooze duration, and delivery status
• Creation and update timestamps
• Capture source, such as watch speech-to-text, watch keyboard, timestamp capture, or phone
• Device-to-device synchronization state and bounded conflict/revision metadata used to avoid data loss
• App preferences, such as default capture mode and haptic confirmation
• Optional Pro entitlement state returned by Google Play

Cloud backup of WristNote's internal app database is disabled. Users may explicitly export a local JSON backup file through Android's document picker.

Device-to-device sync

Notes sync between the user's paired phone and watch through the Wear OS Data Layer, a Google Play services transport designed for communication between a user's own connected devices.

The phone Room database is the long-term library after synchronization. The watch intentionally keeps a bounded local cache of recent/pinned notes plus unsynchronized local work; that cache is not a complete backup of an arbitrarily large phone library.

WristNote does not upload notes to the developer and has no server-side account or storage component.

Reminders and notifications

The phone companion can display reminders that the user explicitly schedules.

• On Android 13 and newer, WristNote requests notification permission only when the user attempts to schedule or update a reminder.
• WristNote uses the boot-completed system event to rebuild locally stored reminder schedules after a device restart.
• WristNote does not request restricted exact-alarm permission. Android battery management may delay reminder delivery slightly.
• Reminder notification actions such as Done and Snooze are processed locally on the device.

Notification and boot permissions do not send note data to the developer.

Home-screen widget

The optional phone home-screen widget shows the user's most recent note's title and a short preview of its text. That content is therefore visible to anyone who can see the phone's home screen, without the app being opened.

• The widget reads only the local note database on the device.
• It requires no additional permission and sends nothing to the developer or any third party.
• Removing the widget from the home screen stops it displaying note content.

Purchases

WristNote offers an optional one-time Pro unlock processed by Google Play. WristNote does not receive payment-card or billing-address details. It receives only purchase and entitlement state needed to unlock the paid functionality.

Exports, imports, and sharing

When a user copies, shares, exports, or imports content, the user chooses the destination or source through Android system UI.

• Share and copy actions send note text only to the destination selected by the user.
• Document export and backup import/export use Android's Storage Access Framework.
• WristNote receives access only to the document URI selected by the user and does not request broad storage access.
• An exported backup remains wherever the user chose to save it until the user deletes or moves it through that file provider.

Local-data loss and recovery

Because WristNote has no cloud account or server backup, uninstalling the phone app, clearing its app data, losing the phone, or replacing it can remove phone-local notes.

If a paired watch survives a phone reinstall/data clear, WristNote can replay notes that are still present in the watch's bounded cache into the fresh phone database. This is best-effort recovery only: older phone-only notes, notes evicted from the watch cache, and phone notes too large to cache on the watch cannot be reconstructed from the watch.

For a library that matters, users should export a local backup before uninstalling, clearing app data, or replacing a phone. WristNote does not describe the bounded watch cache as a full backup.

What WristNote does not do

• No audio recording or audio storage by WristNote
• No WristNote account or login
• No developer-operated cloud database
• No advertising or ad SDKs
• No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
• No access to contacts, location, calendar, SMS, call logs, photos, or broad device storage
• No background microphone listening
• No server-side AI
• No sale or developer sharing of note content

Checklist conversion and note classification use deterministic on-device rules.

Deleting data

Users can delete individual notes in the app. Deletion intent synchronizes to the paired device when available.

Uninstalling WristNote from a device removes that device's app-managed local data. Uninstalling or clearing the phone app does not itself erase a separately installed watch app's remaining bounded cache, and the watch cache may contain only part of the former phone library. Uninstalling from both devices removes the app-managed local copies on both devices.

Backup files explicitly exported by the user remain wherever the user saved them and must be deleted by the user through the chosen file provider.

Because WristNote has no account or server-side storage, there is no separate cloud-account deletion request flow.

Children

WristNote is a general-purpose productivity utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children for the developer.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the app listing and this document before they take effect.
